Goose is a bird species of duck family, with gray-white, gray feathers, webbed feet, flat beak. They are herbivores, but some species also eat insects and worms. Geese, which are quite voracious, can eat non-stop for a day. They spend most of their time looking for food anyway.
They are smaller than swans and larger than ducks. They don't swim fast, but they can stay underwater for a long time. The offspring of the geese, which set up their nests in the shallow waters of the swamps, open their eyes to the world as yellow and very beautiful animals after a 30-34-day incubation period. Baby geese start to fly in a period of 3-4 months. Their average lifespan is 25 years. The weight of adult geese varies between 4 and 7 kilograms. The compass of the geese flying in a “V” shape during migration is the stars. Migratory species generally live in northern regions and poles. Adult male geese shed their tail feathers every year in order to fly comfortably.
Geese are very loyal animals. They are monogamous. They are very protective of their partners and offspring. If a goose's mate or chicks are sick or injured, they will refuse to stay with them and leave the family, even as the other geese of the group fly south as winter approaches.
The mating season for geese is between March and December, when the geese return to their original breeding grounds and build nests. During the nesting season, geese usually travel in pairs. Geese lay 12 eggs and the incubation period ranges from 28 to 35 days. They can fly when they are 3-4 months old. Geese that stay with their families throughout the year form a flock after 1 year. They are rare bird species that do not leave their families at the end of the breeding season.
