Hydrangea is famous for its majestic flowers, mostly is outdoor plant.
Hydrangeas bloom in different colors according to the soil components it grows. They like water so much. This plant needs plenty of water. This odorless flowers look gorgeous with its variety of colors and leaves . The color of the flowers determine by the aluminum ions in the soil. If the soil is calcareous, the flower becomes pink-white, and If soil is asidic they become blue .
The most ideal place for hydrangea which likes shodow is wall edges of the gardens and also under trees. If you want to put your hydrangea in balcony, you still have to protect it from direct sunlight and put it in the half shadow part of the balcony. Semi-shadow areas are ideal areas for hydrangea.
They bloom from the beginning of spring to the end of summer.The best time to plant them is April and May. Hydrangea may not bloom in summer if affected by cold in winter.In order to prevent this, it must be fed with potassium at the end of summer.Thus , it is not much affected by frost and cold. Faded flowers should be pruned immediately for good growth of new buds. If the flowers are desired to be bigger, the branches of the flower should be diluted.
Types of Hydrangeas
1-Hydrangea macrophylla (big leaf hydrangea): is most known type of Hydrangea with big and fluffy flowers,they are long blooming summer flowers. İts is native to China and Japan. It is a low growing plant,usually with height and spread of no more than 30-60cm. Flowers of Hydrangea Macrophylla have greenish buds that open white, pink, purple, blue or red.
